Cardinal Achille Silvestrini - Religious Inclinations

Birth Details:
October 25, 1923 @8:35 AM Brisighella, Italy (+1 East of GMT) 11E46', 44N13'

Achille Silvestrini is a very prominent figure in the Vatican of the Roman Catholic Church. He became a priest on July 13, 1946. He was in charge of the section of International organizations, peace, disarmament, and human rights in The Council for Public Affairs of the Church between 1969 to 1979. Silvestrini served as administrative secretary to Jean-Marie Villot, which he was appointed for in 1973.

He was rewarded with a cardinal’s hat for his service, and became Cardinal-Deacon of S. Benedetto fuori Porta S. Paolo, and in 1991 became Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches. He retired from his post as Prefect in 2000.

His Vedic Astrology birth chart shows his exalted position in the Vatical of the Roman Catholic Church.

First of all, he has two Mahapurusha Yogas. These are “Great Man” yogas delineated in the ancient astrological scriptures. He has Shasha-Yoga, which is Saturn exalted in Libra in the ascendant, and he also has Malavya-Yoga, with Venus in it’s own sign Libra on the ascendant.

Shasha-Yoga with Saturn gives administrative and executive ability. It makes the person an executive director in his or her chosen field, and gives the person workers who are under his or her supervision and advice.

Malavya-Yoga with Venus gives artistic or healing ability. It is the planet of the higher aesthetic qualities and is also a very important planet when it comes to spiritual devotion. In the case of Cardinal Silvestrini, Venus, the planet of relationships, is expressing its love and affection in the religious sense towards the God-Head instead of an earthly individual.

This Malavya-Yoga becomes even stronger because it repeats in the Navamsa chart. The Navamsa, or D-9, is an overall divisional chart which tends to either support and uplift the Rasi chart, or to weaken it. In Silvestrini’s case, it happens in the 10th house in the sign of Pisces where Venus is exalted. This again strengthens his aesthetic and devotional qualities. It strengthens his compassion and ability to give and receive love and affection.

His lord of the 9th house, Mercury, indicating higher knowledge, religion, spiritual quest, religious institutions, is sitting in the 12th house in it’s own sign of Virgo. The 9th lord brings it’s positive influence to the 12th house of deeper inner spirituality. It also indicates retreat in order to meditate on inner truths. This placement also enhances the potential to travel internationally. In Silvestrini’s case, he was in charge of international (12th house) public affairs for the church (9th lord).

Jupiter sitting in the 2nd house gives him speaking ability. His speech tends to be uplifting and hopeful, and in his case related to Jupitarian subjects: philosophy, religion, spirituality, etc. It aspected the 10th house from it’s position, giving his career Jupitarian qualities (spiritual/religious).
Jupiter also strongly influences the Dasamsha chart, D-10, of career. It is sitting in the ascendant of this divisional chart exalted in Cancer. This again reinforces Jupiter’s aspect on the 10th house of the Rasi chart to a greater extent. Any planet on the ascendant of the Dasamsha chart will greatly influence the person’s career in the direction of the planet’s natural indications. Jupiter is also sitting in the Nakshatra of Pushya in the Dasamsha chart. Pushya is ruled by the deity of Brihaspati, which is Jupiter. So planets in this Nakshatra are naturally lucky and give a tendency towards spiritual and religious tendencies. This is because the desire of this Nakshatra is “to possess the splendor of spiritual knowledge.” It’s basis below is “the worshipper.”

Sun is debilitated (Neecha) in his ascendant, but it gets Neecha-Bhanga (cancellation of debilitation) because of it’s angular position as well as an exalted planet Saturn and Venus there in it’s own sign. It was during his planetary cycle of Sun-Saturn in which he became a priest in 1946. Sun is greatly impacted by the two Mahapurusha Planets it is conjoined with. Sun in Libra also gives the person the tendency towards humility. Sun in Libra people know how to naturally defer to others so as to maintain harmony in relationships. It is completely opposite it’s Sun in Aries quality of wanting to be first in everything, and not being as considerate of others in this regard.

Sun is the 5th lord from the Moon, aspecting the Moon (the mind) from the 7th house. The 5th house has to do with learning, disciples, mantras, and scriptures. So it was during most of his Sun cycle in which he was immersed in deepening his scriptural knowledge, acquiring mantras (prayers), and becoming a disciple in order to learn to become a priest.

Of course, we must not overlook the Yoga-Karaka Bhukti Lord Saturn in the Ascendant/Lagna (ruler of 4th and 5th houses, luckiest planet for Libra Lagna). Therefore, he was running two 5th lords periods from Lagna and Moon, intensifying the 5th house theme.

Silvestrini also has Adhi Yoga. This is when the three benefic planets, Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury, are in the 6th, 7th, and 8th houses from the Moon, variously situated. He not only has the three benefic planets in this position, but two of them are sitting in their own sign. This gives an eminent position in life, along with an enjoyable and happy life, affluence, health, and long life.

Two planets indicating spirituality and Dharma are also flanking his ascendant and Sun: Jupiter in the 2nd house, and Mercury (9th lord) in the 12th house in own sign. This beneficial flanking on his ascendant give him religious/spiritual tendencies, or just auspicious qualities in life relating to higher knowledge and wisdom, along with intelligence.

There is a Dhana Yoga in the 12th house. Dhana Yoga is a wealth-producing combination of planets. In his case it is the lord of the 2nd house, Mars, conjoined lord of the 9th house, Mercury in the 12th house. Since these are sitting in the 12th house, it indicates expenditure. But expenses on what? Since it is 9th lord sitting in the 12th, it indicates expenses either on foreign affairs, or affairs of the church, or both. It also indicates expenses on charitable matters in general.

With Mars sitting in the 12th house, he has an easy ability to let go of earthly attachments. Mars is quick and to the point, and it is sitting with the 12th lord Mercury who rules that house. Therefore, he has a healthy ability of letting go, which is a pre-requisite to achieve a higher spiritual life. We have to learn to let go of material possessions in order to acquire the spiritual gifts.

We can get deeper and deeper, but it would require a book to include every planet and position in all the divisional charts indicating events in his life. For now, I hope this gave you an introduction to a Cardinal’s chart, a very prominent figure in the Vatican Church.

Yogi, Avayogi - Prosperity and Obstruction

What exactly are the planets which are called "Yogi, Avayogi, and Duplicate Yogi?" In Vedic Astrology these are actually very important planets you should know about. Without knowing this, you miss out on very important and accurate predictions in your readings.  So let's get to the core of the matter right away. These are their definitions: Yogi: This is the planet which gives rise to prosperity in the best way it can. Avayogi: This is the planet which obstructs prosperity in the best way it can. Duplicate Yogi: This is the planet which supports prosperity, although to a lesser degree than the Yogi. Now that you know what these planets represent, how to analyze them in your chart? The easiest way to begin is to see what Dasa/Bhukti you are running. Are you running the Dasa or Bhukti of either the Yogi, Avayogi, or Duplicate Yogi? That is the most direct way. If you are not running the Dasa or Bhukti, check to see if the Dasa/Bh...

Mesha (Aries) Personality Traits

Mesha is a fire sign ruled by the planet Mars. It is the first sign of the zodiac, which is symbolically related to the first house of Vedic Astrology, a Dharma house (Read The Four Aims of Life: The Purusharthas).  Thus, just like the other Dharma houses and signs, Mesha people feel they have a strong sense of purpose to fulfill in life. People with this sign strong in their charts will have a strong sense of self and individuality. They will want to be first in everything they do, so they tend to be very competitive. They have a lot of energy, strength, will-power, and strong desires. Mesha people love action and have a strong desire to help others less fortunate.  They like to have a story in life and be the hero of that story, and one of the ways of doing this is through fighting for the underdog.  Mesha loves getting involved in causes and helping the oppressed in one way or another.  This involvement is their noble way of coming to the rescue and being chi...

How are Divisional Charts Used in Vedic Astrology? Jackie Kennedy's Chart

There is a lot of contradiction on how divisional charts are used in Jyotish.  Some astrologers only look at the sign a planet is placed in.  They then look at the lord of that sign and see if it is strong or weak in the Rasi chart.  However, they claim that Yogas and Aspects are not to be used in divisional charts. This is one section that I strongly disagree with.  And I abide by my teacher, James Kelleher, in the way he uses divisional charts. A divisional chart should be read exactly like a birth chart, but in relation to the particular chart you are looking at.  So if you are looking a the Navamsha, it stands for spouse.  If you are looking at the D-7 chart, it stands for children.  If you are looking at the D-10 chart it stands for career.  So the particular Yoga in the chart will focus in on only that area of your life. Let us take an example at why we analyze a divisional chart just as we analyze a Rasi chart, including Yogas and asp...
